Kaizen Privacy Policy

This page explains what information Kaizen collects, why, and what we do with it. If anything here is unclear, email support@kaizen.rip and we'll answer directly.

Information we collect

When you create an account, we collect a username, an email address, and a password (stored as a salted hash, never in plain text, so we can't actually see it ourselves). We also log the IP address behind certain actions, mainly for abuse prevention.

Beyond that, anything else we hold comes from you choosing to add it: an avatar or banner image, a custom title, a bio, and of course whatever you post in threads, profile posts, or messages.

How we use it

• Your username, email, and password hash keep your account working and let you log back in;
• Your email address may be used for account notices, like a password reset;
• IP addresses are logged for security and spam prevention. They're never shown to other members;
• Everything you post is shown on the site as part of how a forum works, which is the whole point of posting it.

We don't sell your data, and we don't run ad networks or third-party analytics trackers on Kaizen.

Who else sees it

A few outside services help run Kaizen behind the scenes, and each only sees what it needs to do its job:

• Our database host stores your account data and posts so the site actually works;
• Uploaded images (avatars, banners, post attachments) are stored with a cloud storage provider;
• If you request a password reset, the email is sent through a transactional email provider whose only job is delivering that one message;
• The site itself is hosted with a cloud hosting provider, which sees the same traffic any web host does.

None of these services are permitted to use your data for anything other than helping run Kaizen.

Cookies

Kaizen sets a small number of cookies to keep you logged in and to work at all. The full breakdown, including what each one does and how long it lasts, is on our Cookie Policy page.

How long we keep things

We keep your account and posts for as long as your account exists. If you ask us to delete your account, we'll remove what we can; posts that are part of a shared conversation with other members may be anonymized instead of deleted outright, since fully removing them would break the thread for everyone else in it.

Your choices

You can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold on you, ask us to correct anything inaccurate, or ask us to delete your account, by emailing support@kaizen.rip. We'll handle these requests manually and will get back to you.

Children's privacy

Kaizen requires everyone to be at least 13 to register, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger than that. If you believe a child under 13 has an account here, let us know at the email above and we'll look into it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy occasionally. Meaningful changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.
